White House Correspondent Helen Thomas announces her retirement following controversial comments last week saying the Jews go home to Germany and Poland because Israel is occupying the area the Arabs call Palestine. From Times of London:
It is always dangerous for a reporter to become the story. For Helen Thomas, two months before her 90th birthday, it has meant the end of her career.
The daughter of Lebanese immigrants who could neither read nor write, Ms Thomas was covering the White House 11 years before its current spokesman was born. Yesterday she resigned in disgrace after telling a Jewish online news service that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home”.
In the final outburst of a career spanning seven decades and ten presidents, Ms Thomas appeared not to know, or not to care, that she was talking to a rabbi on the day of the White House’s official celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month last week.
“Any comments on Israel?” she was asked. “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine,” she replied.
Prompted to say something more positive in the spirit of the occasion, the 89 year-old dean of the White House Press Corps said: “Remember, these people are occupied and it’s their land. It’s not Germans’. It’s not Poland’s.”
The tone seen as anti-Semitic:
Her remarks were scarcely reported at first, but when posted on the Drudge Report website at the weekend they provoked a storm of controversy in which outraged accusations of anti-Semitism quickly drowned out defenders of free speech.
Thomas issued a written apology:
Ms Thomas issued a blanket apology on Sunday, saying she deeply regretted comments that did not reflect her heartfelt hopes for peace in the Middle East through “mutual respect and tolerance”, but her statement came too late.
Criticism came swiftly:
Yesterday Robert Gibbs, President Obama’s spokesman, called her remarks offensive and reprehensible.
Addressing a White House briefing room in which Ms Thomas was conspicuously absent from her normal front-row seat, Mr Gibbs added: “Obviously those remarks do not reflect the opinions of most of the people in here, and certainly not of the Administration.”
Mr Bush’s former press secretary, Ari Fleischer, led calls over the weekend for her to be fired. He accused her of advocating “religious cleansing” and argued that “if a journalist, or a columnist, said the same thing about blacks or Hispanics they would already have lost their jobs”.
By yesterday morning Ms Thomas had been dropped by her speaker’s bureau, disowned by the co-author of her latest book and called an “anti-Semitic bigot” by Lanny Davis, a former close friend and Clinton administration lawyer.
Her resignation as a columnist for the Hearst newspaper group announces minutes later.
Thomas has writing her column for Universal Press International (a/k/a UPI) since President Harry S. Truman won re-election in 1948.
Thomas has always asked president and press secretary tough questions see this exchange between Thomas and former President George W. Bush:
No administration felt the sharp end of her questioning more frequently than that of the younger President Bush, whom she described in the run-up to the Iraq war as “the worst president in American history”. At Mr Bush’s next press conference she was seated in the back row and not called on to ask a question.
She later received a conciliatory note from Mr Bush and was reinstated in the front row, where her first question for the President was: “Why did we go to war?” As she later told an interviewer: “Again I was in the dog house. Deep freeze this time.”
There are defenders standing by Helen Thomas:
She was not entirely without defenders. Joe Lockhart, President Clinton’s former spokesman, said: “I hope we are strong enough as a country to sustain voices that are wrong, voices that offend, even voices that incite.”
I don’t think Helen Thomas should resign due to 1st Amendment rights. I understand her anger being Lebanese Arab colored her views. I do believe Helen Thomas is anti-Semitic and the truth finally came out. It’s sad to see her go she out lived her time.
Bus she made history including the first woman columnist to be accepted in the prestigious Gridion Club.
James O’Keefe an ambitious reporter pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of entering federal property under false pretenses :
O’Keefe was sentenced to three years probation, 100 hours of community service and fined a $1,500 fine. The 25-year-old is known for wearing a pimp costume in a video that embarrassed ACORN.
A Louisiana Federal Magistrate gave him a mild sentence considering this was first time offense The three others with O’keefe also plead guilty:
Magistrate Daniel Knowles III sentenced the three others to two years probation, 75 hours of community service and fined them $1,500.
The FBI has said O’Keefe used his cell phone to try to capture video of two men who posed as telephone repairmen and asked to see the phones. O’Keefe spokesman Denis Calabrese disputed an earlier allegation that a fourth suspect waited in a car with a listening device, which was not mentioned in court records.
Last weekend People’s Republic of China slammed the US on its Human Right policies. The US agreed via Deputy Secretary of State Michael Posner. From Michelle Malkin:
The transcript via Lexis-Nexis:
Q Was there any areas in which China sort of turned the tables and raised its own complaints or concerns about U.S. practices around the globe or at home? Can you give some examples there –
MR. POSNER: Sure. You know, I think, again, this goes back to Ambassador Huntsman’s comment. Part of a mature relationship is, do you have an open discussion where you not only raise the other guy’s problems but you raise your own and you have a discussion about it? We did plenty of that.
We had experts from the U.S. side, for example, yesterday talking about treatment of Muslim Americans in an immigration context. We had discussion of racial discrimination. We had a back-and-forth about how each of our societies are dealing with those sorts of questions.
…Q (Off mike.)
MR. POSNER: I’m not going to get into the details.
We’ve expressed in the past, you know, our concern about the nature of the detention. And we certainly continue to be concerned about the fact that he’s in prison.
Q Did the recently passed Arizona immigration law come up? And if so, did they bring it up? Or did you bring it up?
MR. POSNER: We brought it up early and often. It was mentioned in the first session and as a troubling trend in our society, and an indication that we have to deal with issues of discrimination or potential discrimination. And these are issues very much being debated in our own society.
Q Did they — did they discuss anything about their concerns about Chinese visiting in Arizona? Any concerns raised?
MR. POSNER: No, that was not raised.
Boy the White House is full of the blame America First crowd. What’s worse the US being chastised by China who treat people like crap and worse. From Michelle Malkin via Global Post:
For years, African traders seeking cheap goods direct from the source have flocked to Guangdong, the manufacturing province known as the “world’s factory.” For the most part, the African community in Guangzhou, Guangdong’s capital, has thrived. Markets are devoted to African buyers and whole neighborhoods cater to them. What was a community of a few hundred traders a decade ago now includes as many as 20,000.
But Guangzhou’s African community, China’s largest, is at a breaking point.
The country’s faltering economy is putting the squeeze on “Little Africa,” or “Chocolate City,” as locals call it. Numbers are down and business is suffering. All-important visas are being denied or granted only for the short term. Africans who allow their visas to expire — and many do — are often imprisoned and forced to pay a hefty fine.
In January, the Chinese government announced a crackdown on foreigners living illegally in Guangzhou, and, according to interviews with more than two dozen Africans working in the city, the community is facing increased persecution at the hands of police.
At the markets, talk of the crackdown is common.
“The knock on the door came very early in the morning and I knew straight away it was the police,” recalled Hugo, a 29-year-old trader from Aba City, Nigeria, who leans on a cane as he describes his most recent run-in with police.
“They’d been raiding homes and taking people away since August, so I knew they’d found me. I jammed the door shut and jumped out of the apartment window,” he said.

When Arizona Governor Jan Brewer sign the state immigration law last Friday; Mexican President Felipe Calderon decried the action by Brewer as: “to (foster[word choice is mine]) intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement.”
But Journalist and Author Michele Malkin (” Culture of Corruption”) show the Republic of Mexico of dirty little secret: Mexico control their border with Guatemala, and US with an Iron Fist.
– The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset “the equilibrium of the national demographics.” How’s that for racial and ethnic profiling?
– If outsiders do not enhance the country’s “economic or national interests” or are “not found to be physically or mentally healthy,” they are not welcome. Neither are those who show “contempt against national sovereignty or security.” They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.
– Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years’ imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years’ imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country (see, for example, President Obama’s illegal alien aunt — a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim).
– Law enforcement officials at all levels — by national mandate — must cooperate to enforce immigration laws, including illegal alien arrests and deportations. The Mexican military is also required to assist in immigration enforcement operations. Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens’ arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities.
– Ready to show your papers? Mexico’s National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens’ identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens.
All of these provisions are enshrined in Mexico’s Ley General de Población (General Law of the Population) and were spotlighted in a 2006 research paper published by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Security Policy. There’s been no public clamor for “comprehensive immigration reform” in Mexico, however, because pro-illegal alien speech by outsiders is prohibited.
If that’s not enough, here a difference on free speech between the US and Estados Unidos de Mexico is this says Malkin:
Consider: Open-borders protesters marched freely at the Capitol building in Arizona, comparing GOP Gov. Jan Brewer to Hitler, waving Mexican flags, advocating that demonstrators “Smash the State,” and holding signs that proclaimed “No human is illegal” and “We have rights.”
But under the Mexican constitution, such political speech by foreigners is banned. Noncitizens cannot “in any way participate in the political affairs of the country.” In fact, a plethora of Mexican statutes enacted by its congress limit the participation of foreign nationals and companies in everything from investment, education, mining and civil aviation to electric energy and firearms. Foreigners have severely limited private property and employment rights (if any).

US Supreme Court Clarence Thomas defend the ruling which made McCain-Feingold Act (also known campaign finance reform) was ruled unconstitutional after President Obama slammed the ruling during the State of the Union speech in which six supreme court justices attended.
Justice Thomas was speaking at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport,FL on the case Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission.
The Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 defending corporation right to support or oppose candidates with their money.
“I found it fascinating that the people who were editorializing against it were The New York Times Company and The Washington Post Company,” Justice Thomas said. “These are corporations.”
Thomas points out the law exempts news organizations.
The justice says the 1st Amendment protects all people. Justice Thomas gave an example:
“If 10 of you got together and decided to speak, just as a group, you’d say you have First Amendment rights to speak and the First Amendment right of association,” he said. “If you all then formed a partnership to speak, you’d say we still have that First Amendment right to speak and of association.”
“But what if you put yourself in a corporate form?” Justice Thomas asked, suggesting that the answer must be the same.
Asked about his attitude toward the two decisions overruled in Citizens United, he said, “If it’s wrong, the ultimate precedent is the Constitution.”
Asked why he did not attend the State of the Union Address because it’s too political.
“I don’t go because it has become so partisan and it’s very uncomfortable for a judge to sit there,” he said, adding that “there’s a lot that you don’t hear on TV — the catcalls, the whooping and hollering and under-the-breath comments.”
“One of the consequences,” he added in an apparent reference to last week’s address, “is now the court becomes part of the conversation, if you want to call it that, in the speeches. It’s just an example of why I don’t go.”
The New York Times has more.
Last Week a letter to editor of over a dozens of Newspapers causes a firestorm of controversy. Not for what the letter said but who is the letter from and is the writer real and why is it sent to a variety of small to large size markets across the country.
Who is Ellie Light is a mystery. Since the beginning of January she has sent letters of support for President Obama to a dozen of newspapers in the country.
In the letter Light, takes on the Presidents critics:
A year ago, if we had read in the paper that employers were hiring again, that health care legislation was proceeding without a bump, that Afghanistan suddenly became a nice place to take your kids, we would’ve known we were being lied to. Back then, we recognized that the problems Obama inherited as president wouldn’t go away overnight.
During his campaign, Obama clearly said that an economy that took eight years to break couldn’t be fixed in a year, that Afghanistan was a graveyard of empires and would not be an easy venture for us. Candidate Obama didn’t feed us happy talk, which is why we elected him. He never said America could solve our health care, economic and security problems without raising the deficit. Instead, he talked of hard choices, of government taking painful and contentious first steps towards fixing problems that can’t be left for another day.
Right after Obama’s election, we seemed to grasp this. We understood that companies would be happy to squeeze more work out of frightened employees, and would be slow to hire more. We understood that the banks that had extorted us out of billions of dollars, were lying when they said they would share their recovery. We understood that a national consensus on health care would not come easily. Candidate Obama never claimed that his proposed solutions would work flawlessly right out of the box, and we respected him for that.
But today, the president is being attacked as if he were a salesman who promised us that our problems would wash off in the morning. He never made such a promise. It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything.
The letters initially seem like a coincidence except if the letter has an address; example A few letters sent national news organizations Like The Politico, USA Today, Yahoo News Buzz, and Washington Times as well of local paper Daily Breeze based in Torrance,CA signed Ellie Light in Long Beach,CA
Most letters sent papers with a local address: Huntsville Times Huntsville,AL Huntsville,Al is address. Or a letter with a nearby address Stamford Advocate local address Greenwich,CT.
A blogger/ columnist for the Cleveland Plain-Dealer Sabrina Eaton discovered that Ellie Light seems to live all over the place not only her paper, she found the letters was sent from different addresses She the letter from the Philadelphia Daily News and the letter found later in the San Francisco Examiner for Eaton bells went off. She continued searching Mansfield OH News Journal, Ruidoso,NM News with an address of Three Rivers. Next was the Myrtle Beach,SC Sun News with Myrtle Beach Address (this letter was reprinted in have a half-dozen newspapers across the country.
Soon after Los Angeles Attorney and blogger Patterico’s Pontifications discovered more letter from Ellie Light “and syndicated Columnist and blogger Michelle Malkin also did some digging.
Eaton wrote to Light about the alleged letters with a different addresses (or hometown listed)Light would not answer questions about letters with different addresses or a former co-worker similar name as Light.
“I do not write as a representative of any organization,” she said in an e-mail. “The letter I wrote was motivated by surprise and wonderment at the absence of any media support for our President, who won a record-breaking election by a landslide less than 18 months ago, and now, seems to be abandoned by all, supposedly for the infantile reason that he couldn’t make all of Bush’s errors disappear in one day.”
Patterico asked his readers about the letters and send him a link. He also points out that Democrat blogger Glenn Greenwald notices the Obama staffer Cass Sunstein head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs suggested government infiltration in chat rooms and social network to get point across supporting Obama’s plans.
Sunstein advocates that the Government’s stealth infiltration should be accomplished by sending covert agents into “chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups.” He also proposes that the Government make secret payments to so-called “independent” credible voices to bolster the Government’s messaging (on the ground that those who don’t believe government sources will be more inclined to listen to those who appear independent while secretly acting on behalf of the Government).
You have to wonder is this what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi meant about astroturf(ing) in here criticisms about tea party members.

The latest Rasmussen Report find 45% of those who surveyed approve the job President Obama is doing. While 54% disapprove of job performance. 25% strongly approve the President job performance. While 45% strongly disagree with Obama job performance.
The poll finds 45% believes that GM need more bailout money.
Meanwhile, the poll find former Rep. Pat Toomey beating his Democratic rivals incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter and Rep. Joe Sestak .
Rasmussen Reports has more.
Two conservative writers have some analysis that suggest Independents and White Voters have left President Obama. Peggy Noonan the former speechwriter for President Reagan writes the that Massachusetts voters notably Independents have fled Obama in droves.
Noonan compares Democrats as Nuts and Republican as Creeps.
Noonan says independents who tired of the Bush-Chaney Administration went to Barack Obama believing that he was not the same tax and spend Nuts like Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton in his first two years . Obama proclaim he was for tax relief for voters and he’s fiscally conservative.
However Obama turned to classic tax and spend liberal; a nut who believes raising taxes, increase spending and returned to big government was the answer for what ails the American Government.
The voters of Virgina, New Jersey and Massachusetts ran to the GOP the creeps (with sexual peccadilloes, and Democrat lite policies which drove voter away in 2006 and 2008.) The GOP earned the trust by portraying themselves as fiscal conservatives and not bring up the social issues which is major issues for the GOP.
In his weekly column on World Net Daily, Ultra Conservative (and Populist) Commentator Pat Buchanan dare to ask “Has Obama lost White America?”
In the article Buchanan says exit polls found the white voters in both Virginia and New Jersey which Obama won in 2008 has lost them in voting the Republican Governors in November 2009.
In Virgina Republican Bob Mc Donald won the white voter 68%to 32%. McDonald lost the black vote 90 to 9. Obama beat Sen. John McCain with 92 to 8 percent votes.
In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie won the 59 to 43% a 2 to 1 margin. Christie lost the Black vote equally large numbers like Mc Donald; Christie won only 8% of the black vote.
Reasons, one Whites see Obama is ineffective in creating jobs and ending the recession. Second, the perception that the President put race ahead in support of the police. Third, Buchanan says selection of controversial Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and finally, The voter tired of the GOP and its support of NAFTA and pro-amnesty for illegals and watching over 5 million job lost under Bush. Obama promise to be a new Democrat à la Bill Clinton. When he took office he reverted to the same big government policies the American people dislike.
My take the president needs white voter and alienating them is the wrong thing to do. He must prove to the voters that he listening and cannot be seen a condescending, élite who this his way is the only way.
We know what works and what doesn’t: Tax Cuts to create jobs, allowing people to buy insurance across state lines, eliminating pre-existing conditions(or pool for working class and middle class people to buy insurance including making catastrophic policies available). We dont’ carve out niches for you supporters (i.e. Unions) for a “Cadillac health plans” tax everyone else who have the policies will pay through the snout for the Senate health care plans.
Holding terrorists at Guantanamo Bay Prison and have trials there instead of New York City or Chicago.
The president is a very smart man but he has little common sense and wisdom, which leader needs. But Obama is not using. He has ten months for he and Democrats congress to turn it around or he’ll face what Bill Clinton faced the lost of both houses of Congress. (Bill Clinton turned it around to win a second term with strong fiscal conservative congress in 1996. Will Obama take a page from President Obama to move to the center and lose the wacky left he be re-elected? Or continue on this path to political death and be a one term president. We will see.
ABC News has discovered that a military supply manufacturer has inscribed scripture in the weapons. Rifle scopes manufactured by the Trijicon has placed verses in the scopes. One example on one scope was found JN 8:12( Jn is abbreviation of John) the full verse was not incorporated.
“Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
US Armed forces has rules against proselytizing. Trijicon has a $600 million contract with the military for 800,000.
Trijicon admitted to ABC News by stating that the scriptures “have always been there” and said there noting was illegal about it. The scriptures was part of Trijicon work since companies founders death in 2003.
ABC News has the rest of the story.
