A gas main exploded Thursday night in San Bruno,Ca destroying and damages homes leaving people homeless. The Explosion was in an area off Skyline Blvd and San Bruno Ave.
The explosion happen at 6:15 PM PDT. Residents heard and felt rumbling then an explosion. Flames reached 50 feet in the air. Some area residents thought a plane had crashed in the neighborhood. However, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport officials say ” No reports of missing planes nor plane crashes.”
The injured have been taken to area hospitals including Kaiser Hospital in South San Francisco are treating 15 patients, Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame treating 5 minor injuries, Seton Medical Center in Daly City are taking care of 3 patients with minor injuries. San Francisco General Hospital has at least 5 patients. Saint Francis Memorial Hospital also taken in two injured people.
San Bruno Firefighter have difficulty in battling the fire. They call for mutual aid from San Mateo County, Redwood City, San Francisco Fire;San Jose, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Oakland, Santa Clara city and Santa Clara County and fire fighters from across Northern California are helping San Bruno.
PG&E says 5,000 customers are out of power.
Residents been evacuated by San Bruno Police and Fire Departments. There are two evacuation center set up by first responders the first at San Bruno Recreation Center and the second at Bay Hill Shopping Center. There was speculation that The Shops at Tanforan Park the regional mall on the city’s north side was an evacuation center but that is not the case.
Area roads closed in San Bruno includes the Following: Skyline Blvd, Sneath Lane, and San Bruno Ave. Also closed I-280 Junipero Serra Freeway at San Bruno Ave exits.
