President Obama has weigh in the controversy of “Park 51( Cordoba House) Mosque and Community Center and announced he support in Religious Liberty Grounds.

He tells his guests” Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground,” “But let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances.”
There is much opposition to the site of the Mosque which is three blocks from the Former site of the World Trade Center which was destroyed during the September 11th, 2001 terrorists attacks. A recent poll by CNN found that 68% do no not approve thee building of the Mosque near the site.
Republicans including Former US Rep. and NY Gubernatorial Candidate Rick Lazio who is against the mosque’s site seized on the Presidents remarks and has linked to Democratic Candidate and NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.
“President Obama and Attorney General Cuomo still are not listening to New Yorkers,” Lazio said in a statement, suggesting that the backers of the project have obscured their true motives and funding.
There has been “a deliberate attempt to avoid transparency and a deliberate attempt to build the Mosque at this location,” Lazio said. “Why?”
For weeks the White House has been avoiding the subject Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said,“a matter for New York City and the local community to decide.”
But tonight President Obama says express caution and do not compare mainstream Islam and Radical version by Al Queda, which the president calls a “gross distortion” of the faith.Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect to those who are different from us – a way of life that stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of those who attacked us on that September morning, and who continue to plot against us today,” he said.
Deborah Burlingame sister of Charles Burlingame who was the pilot of the plane that crashed in the Pentagon is outraged:”I’m so angry. I believe this president has abandoned the American people,” she said. “This isn’t a fight about religious freedom for Muslims. No one has argued they don’t have the property rights. This is about a project led by someone who says he’s trying to build bridges and bring the community together and he’s chosen probably the worst place in America and the worst way to do it.”
The Mosque support by Cordoba Institute which attempts to bring Islam and the western world together in better relations. Cordoba wants to demolish a 150 year old buliding and build a mosque and a community center.
Opponents say it an insult and hurtful to build a mosque so close to where 3000 people were killed on 9/11. Other say it show religious tolerance to build the mosque on the sight.
