Obama Memorial Day Speech in Chicago Rained Out

A powerful thunderstorm in the Chicago area with lightning struck  the Chicagoland area and forced President  to  cancel his speech at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood,Ill. From Reuters via Yahoo News:

President Obama with umbrella attempted to  make his tribute soldier and sailor, corpsmen and airman when he suggest that observers should return to their cars until the rain stops:

Instead he urged the crowd to seek shelter.

“We don’t want to endanger anyone, particularly the children, in the audience. A little bit of rain doesn’t hurt anybody, but we don’t want anybody struck by lightning,” he said from the podium, the storm so loud his words could barely be heard through the amplifier.

The president went were observers gather to wait out the storm and he greeted the audience then he laid a wreath at the cemetery. Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden spoke at  Arlington National Cemetery.

Later President Obama visited military families and injured vets at  a VA hospital in Chicago.
