Record Breaking Rains Swamps The Northeast

Heavy Rains have swamp the northeastern US for two-day bring fears of flooding  to an area which was hit major floods earlier this month.

The nor’easter hit the Eastern Seaboard with record-breaking rains,  continued to the Northeast and New England regions of the US. Rivers in this part of the US are at flood stage.

In Cranston, Rhode Island, the Pauxtent River has crested over historic flood stage. Many homes  inundated with flood water. Still other homes may be in danger.

In New York City Metropolitan Area some  streets and roads are under water.Major Airports in New York, Boston, Philadelphia seen delays between 1 to 2 hours.

Meanwhile the Governors of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island declares states of emergency on Tuesday. Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts said in his declaration the commonwealth experience “beach erosion, major flooding and widespread road closures,” he said on his Web site yesterday.

M Jodi Rell, Governor of Connecticut said the eastern Connecticut is experiencing “extremely dangerous situations.”

Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri warned  the Rhode Islanders to leave work early  to go home. Carcieri through his spokesperson  Amy Kempe, said Rhode Island is experiencing “historic flooding.’

The storm  is causing concern, in Boston the Charles River expected to break flood levels. The Charles is set to crest above  9.25 feet set  In August 1955 when two hurricanes dump 24 inches of rain over a two-week period.

Rain Totals from this storm Central Park for the Month saw 10.55 inch of rain which broke the previous record set in 1983 at 10.54 inches during the last Major El Nino season. Since Sunday the storm brought over 4 inches of rain to Manhattan. Portions of Long Island see 5 to 7 inches of rain.

Boston receive for the month of March of 14.23 inches of precipitation. Providence,RI  receive 15.84 inches of rain.

Obama Administation May Allow Oil Drilling After All

On Wednesday, The Obama Administration is updating its energy policy including it plans for Drilling  for oil and natural gas off the coastline of the US.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in February that the federal government will update its drilling plans by the end of March.

Two White House source not identified because they are not authorized to speak officially says the President Obama will make a major speech on the energy security .

The White House and Interior Department  declined to make statement. But the sources say the president will make his announcement at Andrews Air Force Base in Clinton,MD.
