Four Lakewood Police officers were killed in an ambush shooting at a coffee-house in the town of Parkland,WA. The suspect is hold up in home in Seattle’s Leschi neighborhood police say.
Seattle Police have corded off the area around from 32nd ave and Yesler Way. The are searching for Maurice Clemmons a person of interest.
The shooting took place at the Forza Coffee in Parkland which is just east of Lakewood about 8:30 A.M. Police say the for officers three men and women was set to start their shift with the Lakewood Police Department about 9A.M.
Several law enforcement sources told KING 5 News that Clemons has been held there.
Police has detoured traffic in the area.
The four officers have identified Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Ronald Owens, 37; Tina Griswold, 40; and Greg Richards 42. They were members of the Lakewood,WA Police Department a 100 unit force.
Police say Clemmons has an extensive criminal record in both Washington state and Arkansas; including aggravated robbery and assault. In Pierce County Clemmons charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and rape of a child.
Pierce County Sheriff Detective Ed Troyer says Clemmons is one of several persons who police want to talk to.
Police also say the gunman who killed the police officer may have injured the gunman. It is believed that one officer went to the door of the coffee-house and managed to fire at the gunman.
“There is evidence that a Lakewood Police officer fired off some shots, and we hope that he hit him,” said Troyer. “If he’s hit, that means that he’s injured somewhere with a gunshot wound.”
