Two Days of student protest at UCLA and University of California, Berkeley could not stop a needed 32% fee hike passed by University of California Board of Regents this week in Westwood.
The fee increase which equals $2500 begins in the summer of 2010. The tuition will be $10,000 per year.
For two days protester came to UCLA bang drums, shouted and carried signs that read: “No fee hikes” and “Wanted: Leadership.”
One Protester Laura Zavala 20, a college junior may have to get a second job to help pay for school.
“My family can’t support me. I have to pay myself,” she said. “It’s not fair to students, when they are already pinched.”
Campus police, Along California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles were dress in riot gear to hold students back.
