Another Islamic Charity in Trouble with Feds.

November 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

First the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development which was charged with funneling money to the Muslim Brotherhood. Now another Islamic charity in trouble with the Feds.

The Alavi Foundation,  a foundation that provides Koran to prison inmates seems to have a sideline  business as a property manager may funded monies to Iran via a front company Assa Corporation. Assa has funneled money through the Bank of Iran Melli.

Assa Corporation owns mosques in New York City, Houston, Sacramento, Suburban Maryland near Washington D.C.; 100 acres of land in Northern Virginia also  near Washington,D.C. and piece De Resistance 36 story office tower on Manhattan’s tony 5th Avenue.

Federal prosecutors took steps Thursday to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.

In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court against the Alavi Foundation, seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets.

The assets include bank accounts; Islamic centers consisting of schools and mosques in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston; more than 100 acres in Virginia; and a 36-story glass office tower in New York.

Confiscating the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which has been accused by the U.S. government of bankrolling terrorism and trying to build a nuclear bomb.

A telephone call and e-mail to Iran’s U.N. Mission seeking comment were not immediately answered. Nor was a call to the Alavi Foundation.

It is extremely rare for U.S. law enforcement authorities to seize a house of worship, a step fraught with questions about the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.

The action against the Shiite Muslim mosques is sure to inflame relations between the U.S. government and American Muslims, many of whom are fearful of a backlash after last week’s Fort Hood shooting rampage, blamed on a Muslim American major.

President Obama Bowing In Japan

November 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Can Someone tell me what is the protocol When an American Head of State should bow to another head of state? Because President Obama has bowed to Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in their first meeting on Saturday.

President Barack Obama to the Emperor and Empress of Japan

I read an excerpt from Inside-Japan.com about bowing as way of showing respect. However,  It does not go into Heads of State protocol.

This has led to a firestorm of controversy on blogoshpere: Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit: “What a goof!Barack Obama bowed to Japanese Emperor.

At Powerline:  The three contributors Scott Johnson, John Hinderaker, and Paul Mirengoff  each add a piece wisdom to the critique

Scott Johnson:

“Obama’s breach of protocol is of a piece with the substance of his foreign policy. He means to teach Americans to bow before monarchs and tyrants. He embodies the ideological multiculturalism that sets the United States on the same plane as other regimes based on tribal privilege and royal bloodlines. He gives expressive form to the idea that the United States now willingly prostrates itself before the rest of the world. He declares that the United States is a country like any other, only worse, because we have so much for which to apologize.

John Hinderaker:

The context of Obama’s bow is worth noting. He has now carried his apology tour to Japan; his speech in Tokyo was largely an attack on his own country’s recent history and policies:

In a slap at President George W. Bush, Obama spoke of the importance of “multilateral organizations [that] can advance the security and prosperity of this region.”

“I know that the United States has been disengaged from these organizations in recent years. So let me be clear: those days have passed,” Obama said during the first major address of a four-country Far East swing, which will continue from Japan to Singapore, China and South Korea. …

The White House wants to signal U.S. re-engagement with Asia, and the speech was designed to provide an overture to Asia similar to the outreach to the Arab world in the president’s famous Cairo address.

It is untrue that “in recent years” the United States was “disengaged” from multilateral organizations in the Pacific region, but Obama’s serial apologies require no basis in fact.

As usual in such speeches, Obama cast himself as the hero who has redeemed his country’s sordid past. Describing himself as “America’s first Pacific President,” he said:

He sought to strike a balanced tone, saying, “We will not agree on every issue, and the United States will never waver in speaking up for the fundamental values that we hold dear – and that includes respect for the religion and cultures of all people. Because support for human rights and human dignity is ingrained in America. But we can move these discussions forward in a spirit of partnership rather than rancor.” …

“Since taking office, I have worked to renew American leadership and pursue a new era of engagement with the world based on mutual interests and mutual respect,” he said. …

“From my first days in office, we have worked to strengthen the ties that bind our nations,” he said.

Ashamed of his country but arrogant about himself–what a disgusting combination.

Paul Miregoff references syndicated columnist Mark Steyn: suggests it’s time for Valerie Jarrett to speak truth to bower.

Michelle Malkin: President O-bow-ma:

The Left complained that George W. Bush was too much of a cowboy on the global stage.

It’s better than having a waterboy!

Yikes!

Pundit and Pundette writes :

Get used to it, and just be grateful he hasn’t gotten down on both knees yet. Though he fancies himself a cosmopolite, he’s ignorant of protocol as well as history, and views national pride, like guns and religion, as an opiate of the masses.

Dan Riehl caps  it perfectly here:

When not making gaffes due to a sputtering teleprompter, it seems boy king O-Bow-Now’s handlers simply point him at the latest thug king or emperor with instructions to bow down as low as he possibly can. [. . .]

Bill Clinton disgraced the Oval Office by putting a young female intern on her knees. O-Bow-Now is just taking it to the logical next step, all but hitting his knees himself to any and every alleged world potentate. That seems to be the case except for our traditional allies like Britain, Canada and Australia, of course. That’s likely just too all fired American for him. Tragically, O-Bow-Now’s misguided acquiescence to the world’s leaders and more tyrannical dictators seems to go hand-in-hand with his weak foreign policy, too.

So far the left-wing blogs are silent at conservative critiques against Pres. Obama.

Attorney General Holder to Bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York for Trial

November 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

US Attorney General Eric Holder made good on his (President Obama’s) promise to bring the 9/11 co-conspirators to trial in New York. In a press conference at the Justice Department in Washington,D.C. Holder is bring Kalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other for trial. The trial will take place at Federal Court House in Lower Manhattan near the site of the World Trade Center.

Holder said the cases are strong  and harsh interrogation techniques will not harm the case.

“I am confident in the ability of our courts to provide these defendants a fair trial, just as they have for over 200 years,” Holder told reporters. “I am quite confident that the outcomes in these cases will be successful ones.”

The move hail civil libertarians  as the right thing to do. The event happened on American soil. And a fair trial is guaranteed.

“Bringing these men to justice in a legitimate system will allow the world to focus at long last on the atrocities they are accused of committing against us, rather than on how we have treated them,” said Tom Malinowski of Human Rights Watch.

However, Republicans were not amused, they fear New York would be  a target of more terrorist attacks. Senator and former Presidential  Nominee John Mc Cain was upset with the Attorney General actions and he believed a military tribunal was appropriate.

“They are war criminals, who committed acts of war against our citizens and those of dozens of other nations,” he said.

Some New Yorkers were angry with decision of bring the terrorist to the city while others believe  justice will be done.

The Attorney General will seek the death penalty for each defendant.

The Good news for the White House and DNC the election is a year away. The bad news if they don’t produce jobs and keep spending like there no tomorrow; they could be wiped out like 1994 when the Republican were swept in.

Ft. Hood Superiors Wonder About Hasan Actions

November 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Doctors managing Major Nidal Hasan were wondering about the actions and behavior that seem questionable. Hasan religious beliefs were becoming radicalized and exhibiting unusual behavior the doctors discovered months before Hasan went on his alleged shooting rampage at Fort Hood,TX.

At   Walter Reed Army Hospital and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences military medical school felt that Major Hasan was considered  by his superiors and  fellow students , a mediocre student; disinterested, lazy  worker.

His leaders felt based on his action and behavior that he should be transferred to Fort Hood. Ft Hood would be the  best place to monitor Hasan and other doctors could fill in if Hasan caseload was too great. Superiors of the Major could monitor and record any other issues with his behavior.

Hasan superiors said that they did not believe Hasan have violent tendencies. They found has him is combative and intensive and strong religious fervor.

The Pentagon does not have any record of a request by Major Hasan to leave the  Army conscientious objector or for any reason to military official told the AP. This contradict the family statements to the media that Hasan wanted out.

Hasan did not file any complaint against his superiors nor against his fellow students about being harassed said a military official with the army under anonymous conditions.

Meanwhile, NPR reports that some at Walter Reed Army Hospital  wonder is Major Nidal Hasan was psychotic.

In the Spring of 2008, major staffers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences were asking questions about   Major Hasan mental health state.

Put it this way,” says one official familiar with the conversations that took place. “Everybody felt that if you were deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, you would not want Nidal Hasan in your foxhole.”

Since his days at Walter Reed, military leader watched Hasan closely. Those who talked NPR without revealing their identities were disturbed with actions and behaviors. At his evaluations he was given poor remarks; some said his work was shoddy.

According to NPR  students and faculty found at Walter Reed, Major Hasan  disconnected, aloof, paranoid, belligerent, and schizoid. He even told a patient that “Islam can save your soul.”

Earlier this year at a meeting some were wondering if Hasan was sent to either to Iraq or Afghanistan would give away secrets to Al Qadea  or the Taliban. Or would he attacked his fellow soldiers in like the Army Sargent in 2003 who killed 2 soldiers  and injured 14 others by setting off grenades in Kuwait.

Well he did not wait to be in country to go off.

At Walter Reed getting out of the hospital corp is not easy it sounds.  The process is  laborious and time consuming. Officials said it was difficult to put a doctor like Hasan on probation.

Also Doctors and instructor as Walter Reed said went above and beyond to give support  to Hasan.  They didn’t have proof to find him unstable. Or if they found a way to remove him, Hasan could claim discrimination because of his beliefs.

Next, people were not aware of the e-mails contacts to Al Qaeda. Intelligence officials since last December learned he had attempted to contact a radical Muslim Imam in Yemen.

Lastly, officials thought transferring  Hasan to Fort Hood, would be better for him due to number of doctors and psychologists on base than anywhere in the Army.

Obama is OK With Punishing Those Who Do Not Buy Health Insurance.

November 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

In an interview with ABC News White House Correspondent  Jake Tapper President Obama agrees with Rep. John  Dingel Bill on Health Care which charges a fine if the individual refuses to by health insurance. Obama believes penalties are need for people using “free ride” on health care system.

However, The president did not give support or opposition  to sending people to jail for not paying for the fine for not buying health insurance.

What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don’t, you’re subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it’s affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you, you know, there’s a thousand dollar hidden tax that families all across America are — are burdened by because of the fact that people don’t have health insurance, you know, there’s nothing wrong with a penalty.”

While that provision is in the house bill contains fines the Senate bills hsd the provision removed.

Obama says the penalties are needed to that people don’t  abuse the system. But not so punishing that the people financial situations get worse.

“I think the general broad principle is simply that people who are paying for their health insurance aren’t subsidizing folks who simply choose not to until they get sick and then suddenly they expect free health insurance.  That’s — that’s basic concept of responsibility that I think most Americans abide by,” Mr. Obama said, “penalties are appropriate for people who try to free ride the system and force others to pay for their health insurance.”

The  president didn’t think  the questions penalties including jail time was a  major issue.

So much for freedom. By the way Mr. President health insurance is not like car insurance. If your own a car you maybe compelled to buy insurance or pay a fine. The key phrase is own are car. Charging a fine is ridiculous.

Controversy: US Attorney General Speaks at CAIR Event

November 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

US Attorney General Eric Holder, the nations top cop will be speaking at an event in Detroit that will have members of Michigan branch of CAIR  the Council of American-Islamic Relations. Except one thing there The FBI has cut off all ties with CAIR in 2007.

The event hosted by Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust, a coalition of several dozen law enforcement and community group including  the ACLU and US Department of Justice.  A flyer list CAIR as a participant

Holder will speak at the Event which will be held on November 19 in Detroit.

In 2007, The FBI severed ties with the controversial group after federal prosecutors  in the trial of Officers of the Texas Religious charity and group  Holy Land  Foundation for Relief and Development. Document show that link between CAIR and  the Muslim Brotherhood which is related to Hamas.

A spokesperson with Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust, said CAIR is member of group.

“CAIR has been involved for a while,” said Chandra McMillion, community development facilitator for ALPACT. “CAIR is listed as an official member.”

In fact the local CAIR  leader Dawud Walid, the Michigan Executive Director told the Politico that CAIR is member of ALPACT.

“It’s really nothing controversial. We’ve been part of this organization for years,” he said. “We meet every month and included with us is the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI.”

Walid regularly with members of ALPACT. “A lot of people are there: the NAACP, the ACLU, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee…the National Lawyers’ Guild,” he said.

Calls to the Department  of Justice were referred  to the FBI field office in Detroit. FBI office in Detroit referred to FBI headquarters in Washington,D.C.

A spokesman with the FBI confirmed of Special Agent-In-Charge in Detroit Andy Area will be the host.

“We are co-chairing the event. We are not sponsoring the event,” spokeswoman Jennifer Burnside said. She said the FBI “didn’t have any role” in selling tickets for the event or in issuing invitations.

Burnside also stressed the fact that the dinner is not a closed briefing. “It’s a public event and Joe off the street could attend,” she said.

Another reason the FBI is involved is the tribute to  FBI agent  Paul Sorce, an  agent that was killed in the line of duty while preforming surveillance

“Honoring a fallen agent is very important to us,” Burnside said.

Asked about the FBI’s policy regarding CAIR  Burnside said, “Our policy doesn’t prohibit the FBI participating in meetings where CAIR is going to be involved.”

Former Federal Prosecutor Andrew McCarthy, was disappointed but not surprise of the FBI involvement with CAIR.

I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not remotely surprised,” McCarthy said. “When [the FBI] said they cut off formal ties with them, whenever they say something like that you have to look very carefully at the way it’s worded… The last administration was guilty of it, this administration is guilty of it—they have determined it is more important to have what it can publicly hold out as ties to the Muslim community than it is to be careful about who you have the ties with.”

The Politico has more.
