More bad news for the Republicans more people are registering Democratic

August 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

If news could not get any worse for the G.O.P a New York Times report tell the tale that the war, economy has increasing democratic registration. In New Jersey Democrats went from 23% to 34% vs the Republicans going from 17% to 20% from 2004 to 2008. In Nevada the G.O.P lost ground  going from40% to 36% while the Democrats gained from 40% to 43% 3% increase. An 4 years ago Nevada was dead even between Republican and Democratic parties.

If the tale of the tape holds true November 3rd will be a very long night for the G.O.P.  For the Senator Obama this should be confirmation about their strategy for taking back the White House and veto proof majorities in congress. And Republicans will decide once and for all to be Ronald Reagan’s party of  less taxes, less spending, less regulation, or Will the party continue spending like democrats and the limousine liberals George H.W. Bush to oblivion.

LA County Board of Supervisors opposed MTA tax increase

August 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

Its not often that Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors reject a tax hike but the did. On Tuesday the board voted 3to2 against a MTA tax increase of a half cent sales tax on the November ballot. The measure would have provided the MTA $ 40 billion for road, highway  and mass transit projects including the expansion of the Purple Line to Santa Monica.  Democrat Gloria Molina joined Republicans Mike Antonovitch and Don Knabe ( my county supervisor by the way) rejected the increase. Molina rejected the tax because Supervisor  Board President Zev Yaroslovsky keep thein his district(which is considerably richer being its the west LA county vs Her east county district.)  Check out latimes.com for the latesthttp://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-tax6-2008aug06,0,3404233.story

Federal Reserve leaves interest rates at 2%

August 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today, Federal Reserve Bank’s open committee meeting left interest rates at current levels. The fed funds rate remains at 2%, This is the rate banks charge each other when borrowing credit. The discount rate also remained the same as well. From the Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-ap-wall-street,0,4187589.story Citing the bad economy,  credit crunch, housing debacle, and raising unemployment The committee kept the rates low. However, the fed did signaled that interest rates will go up when is anyone guess.

Meanwhile wall street rallied on the news the Dow Jones Averages closing 331.62 points at 11,617.77 Other stock exchanges also rose on the  news NASDAQ 64.27 points, or 2.81 percent, to 2,349.83. Standard and Poor index shot up 35.87 points to 1,284.88.

What happens now will the market continue to rally  or do we continue  bear market roller coaster were the market falls the very next day, rise the next, fall, rise again. I am getting motion sickness just writing this. Excuse me I need go to the bathroom!
